Things to do Before the Holiday Season
Sweet memories of spending the Holidays in my Nana’s cozy basement have inspired me to create that same scenario for my family. I would love to have a kitchen down there like she had! However, at this point, I would need to put a bathroom in my basement first before the kitchen, so cooking down there will have to wait. But decorating and entertaining in my basement doesn’t have to!
Although it is vital that before we make any decisions on where in the home will be the location to host the Holiday celebrations, let’s put together a list of what to do before the holiday season approaches:
- Clean and organize
Start by giving your basement a deep clean to ensure you don’t have any dust or dirt left from the summer/fall months. This way, your basement will be ready for you to transform for the holidays.
2. Inspect and repair
Check your basement for any water damage or potential problems that could be a risk. Fixing any moisture, mold, or structural issues will help ensure your family’s safety during the holidays.
3. Furnishings
4. Lighting
Lamps and holiday lights that sparkle
5. Accessorize
Base them on what Holiday is current
Once your basement is properly waterproofed and sealed, you can begin getting it ready for the holidays. With just a few simple decorations and some creative planning, you can transform your basement into an inviting space for hosting holiday parties or simply enjoying quality time with family and friends. So don’t let the potential of flooding stop you from having the perfect Holiday in your basement.
How do you decorate a cozy basement?
If you have a basement that you want to decorate for the holidays, there are a few things you can do to make it cozy and inviting.
- Use lamps and not just overhead lighting
- Layer the floor with rugs
- Dress up your fireplace
First, use lamps instead of just overhead lighting. This will give the room a warm and intimate feel. Next, layer the floor with rugs, as this will help to keep the room warm and will also add visual interest.
Finally, dress up your fireplace. You can use a fake one or even candles if you don’t have a real fireplace. Thankfully, we have a gas fireplace in our basement. My grandparents had a natural fireplace, but I do not ever remember them lighting it now that I think of it! Probably safer that way with all of us kids running around.
Following some simple tips, you will transform your basement into a cozy and comfortable space that you and your guests will enjoy during the holidays.
Things to do before the holiday season
In conclusion, it is essential to start preparing your basement for the holidays before they arrive. With just a few simple steps, you will transform your basement into an enjoyable space for hosting holiday parties or simply enjoying quality time with family and friends.
Happy Holidays!
